Be quiet my brain!

"You should have left your brain in the car!" is a comment that normally would have had my hackles rising, but actually the 'commenter' was right.

I was at the gun club (now before you leap to conclusions, I am not a red-neck gun lover with a stash of semi-automatic assault weapons, but do regularly shoot clay targets which satisfyingly burst into pretty orange smoke when you hit one) and having a very average round. One of the other shooters had made the observation and on seeing my confusion he carried on. "You are on the target and then you start to over think the whole thing. Stop thinking!"

Which got me thinking (damn it!). Women spent a heap of time and energy considering all aspects of a situation or problem. We view it from 10 different angles, talk to 5 different friends and probably Google it 20 different ways. It's what makes us so hard to communicate with as consumers, because quite simply, there is no fooling us.

When it comes to creating and communicating brands it isn't about going all girly (this is the gun toting hot-shot talking) or, god forbid, turning things pink. It is about getting more things, more right and being completely true to your brand soul.

Because at the end of the day your female consumer is going to turn that brand upside down and completely over-think it. While this is one of the things that make women complex, smart, multi-functioning creatures, it is completely ruining my shooting. So in next time I am going to attempt to leave my brain in the car, or at least turn down the volume.
